Account Clerk

The City of Ashland has an opening for a full-time Account Clerk.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain records on software programs; perform cash counts and maintain cash drawer; prepare receipts, purchase orders and checks; check tax forms and returns; prepare and maintain billing systems; maintain accounts receivable files; and process outstanding debt procedures through collection

  • Perform general accounting functions in order to assist with the efficient operation of the office; assist in the collection of data utilized in GAAP conversion

  • Perform clerical tasks in order to assist with the efficient operation of the office (answer telephones, respond to inquiries, greet the public and answer questions, assist the public in finding their destination, place postage on mail, deliver bank deposits, etc.)

  • Assist in other departments within the Division of Finance (e.g. Finance, Income Tax, Utility Billing, etc.) as needed

  • Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance

  • Miscellaneous tasks as assigned 

We're looking for someone who:

  • Is proficient in personal computer operations, plus the operation of modern business office equipment and software

  • Has knowledge of residential and business income tax returns

  • Is able to work independently or under close supervision

  • Is able to follow detailed instructions and maintain accurate documentation

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below.  An example of an acceptable qualification for this position is:

  •  Completion of secondary education (high school or GED) supplemented by courses in general accounting and computer operations, plus two (2) years of business office experience, or equivalent combination of training and/or experience.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess a valid State of Ohio driver's license and be able to qualify for and remain insurable under the City's vehicle insurance policy.

Compensation and Benefits

Wages: 

  • $15.90 per hour plus $0.50 increase after 6 month probationary period

  • Step and annual wage increases as outlined in the AFSCME union contract

  • Year round work, no furloughs

  • Pension through OPERS with the City contributing an additional 14% and employees contributing 10% of wages.
