Ashland Recycles Right
Acceptable Items and how to Prepare Them:
Newspaper: put in paper bags or tie in bundles, ad slicks can stay in newspaper
Magazines: same as newspaper
Books (soft and hardback): same as newspaper
Office Paper/Mail: same as newspaper
Shredded Paper: put in paper or plastic grocery bags or clear or blue trash bags
Non-Corrugated Cardboard/Boxboard/Cereal Boxes/Christmas Clothing Boxes/12-24 Pack Beverage Containers: flatten and tie in bundles or flatten and place inside other same-type cardboard containers
Aluminum/Steel/Tin Cans & Plastic Containers: these items may all go in the same bag.
Rinse out food cans and drain
Cans can be crushed to save space, but it is not necessary
Aerosol cans may be included if empty
Only plastics #1 and #2 are accepted, NOT #3, #4, #5, #6, or #7
Milk jugs, water jugs, detergent, bleach, fabric softener bottles, 5 gallon buckets with recycling code #2 on the bottom, soda and water bottles with recycling code #1 on the bottom are all accepted; rinse containers and drain, remove caps, and flatten to save space. Labels and rings do not need to be removed.
Examples of bad plastic: cottage cheese containers, Walmart bags/plastic bags, plastic film, Styrofoam, bubble wrap, yogurt containers, motor oil containers, plastic pie containers
Do not include oil bottles or other containers even if #2 appears on the bottom
Do not include any other types of plastic
Some plastic containers i.e. soda bottles do not have a # on them, these are recyclable
Bag and tie items
Flat finish see-through bags only
Please separate difference classes of items
Items NOT Allowed:
Trash
Food
Styrofoam, Packing Peanuts
Plastic bags (grocery bags, trash bags, glossy finish bags)
Bubble wrap
Used tissues, paper towels, toilet paper, paper plates
Used adult toys
Used diapers
Feces
Used feminine products
Any non #1 or #2 plastics
Glass:
The City of Ashland does not pick up curbside glass items; however, glass items can be dropped off at 1674 Cleveland Avenue
All colors of glass jars and bottles are accepted
All food containers must be rinsed, caps and lids are to be removed and recycled in appropriate containers at the drop off location
Light bulbs, mirror glass, window glass, ceramic, crystal, canning jars and drinking glasses cannot be recycled at this time
Place glass into marked bin and discard trash, cardboard, etc. in other marked bins
Labels on jars and bottles do not need to be removed
