Big plans are in store for Candy Cane Trail this winter season—you could even call them record-breaking. A grand kick-off ceremony is planned for Sunday, December 1st at 5:30 p.m. at Freer Field when we will officially attempt to claim the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS record title for the “Largest display of illuminated metal structures/sculptures” with over 700 dazzling Christmas tree displays along the path.
Candy Cane Trail, a magical holiday experience featuring hundreds of Christmas trees, thousands of twinkling lights and special sites that explore the meaning of Christmas, will be back for Ashland residents and visitors to enjoy December 1st through January 5, 2025. Established just last year, the number of trees along the trail will more than double and three interactive stations have been added to the plans.
This project is made possible by a partnership between the City of Ashland, Ashland County Park District, and Dick and Ronda Poorbaugh, owners of Grandpa’s Cheesebarn & Sweeties Chocolates.
“Ashland, OH is truly a fantastic city—and every day we are working hard to become a city of excellence,” said Mayor Matt Miller. “With the help of many individuals and organizations from across our community, we have proven that we know how to celebrate Christmas in style! Setting this new world record during the most joyful season of the year will definitely be the peppermint icing on the cake!"
Everyone is invited to join us for this historical evening. The brief program will take place near the historic barn at Freer Field and will include a special presentation by the official adjudicator from Guinness World Records, as well as a Christmas choir, hot cocoa, and joyful holiday cheer.
